I was struck by the level of engagement by the participants, proving Zoom and its ilk can never replace human contact, the ability to discuss with fellow professionals in a business yet informal environment. AsiaFIC brought the market data community around Asia, and from even further afield, together.

Two standout topics resonated for me.

1.The Cloud. Besides the excellent panel, questions were being asked “What are your Cloud plans?”, and it was noticeable how seriously exchanges, vendors, buy side data consumers are taking this. Yet at the same time the difficulty of counter-balancing advantages with the disadvantages, especially as nobody can strategise by starting from a green field site. What works for one business may not for another.

2.Market Data in China. Mao Yaping (Deputy Director-General of Bureau of Internet Governance, Cyberspace Administration of China) discussed the evolving market data environment in China which highlighted the need of all participants to really do their homework if they want to approach what MDG sees as a US$3 Billion market.
