LSEG has developed FTSE Russell as a strategic business, focusing initially on vanilla indices then expanding to OTC markets, value added products and analytics. FTSE Russell has also developed joint ventures with exchanges, especially in Asia to manage, distribute, and promote, local indices. Rather than build in-house FTSE Russell has been acquisitive: •2011 Buying outstanding 50% of FTSE from Pearson owner of the FT •2014 Purchased Russell for US$2.7 Billion (non-index business resold for US$1.2B) •2017 Acquires Citi’s Yieldbook for US$685 Million (fixed income indices & analytics) •2019 Buys Mergent to integrate analytics and data into FTSE Russell products Key Statistics: •2019 AUM linked to FTSE Russell US$15 Trillion (Number 1 of all index creators) •AUM Percentage of IPE’s Top 400 Asset Managers 23%
