Company Overview

MSCI indices were first calculated in 1969, they were preceded in 1968 by Capital International. In 1986 Morgan Stanley licenced the rights to CI indices. 2004 MSCI purchased Barra for risk and portfolio analytics 2007 MSCI lists on the New York Stock Exchange, Morgan Stanley exits in 2009 Unlike competing index creators MSCI has not been acquisitive in the index space preferring to grow organically Key Statistics: •2019 AUM linked to MSCI US$12.3 Trillion (Number 3 of all index creators) •AUM Percentage of IPE’s Top 400 Asset Managers 19% •225,000 equity indices calculated daily •12,000 equity indices calculated daily in real time •1,300 equity ETFs based on MSCI indices
